Vista Driver Update

Sometimes when your Windows Vista computer doesn't seem to be able to handle newer programs
you may need to find a Vista driver update.
Device drivers are the small programs that tell the devices such as your graphics card, sound card,
DVD drive, etc., how to work with the program or game that you are trying to run. So if you find World
of Warcraft running slow you may need to update those
Windows Vista Drivers.

6. On the "How do you want to search for driver software?"
window, click on "Browse my computer for driver software".

7. In the next window labeled Browse for driver software on
your computer, click on "Let me pick from a list of device
drivers on my computer", found at the bottom of the window.

8. Click the Have Disk button.

9. Click the Browse button on the Install from Disk dialog box
that appeared.
* In the Locate File dialog box that appears next, navigate to
the folder that you extracted as part of the Windows Vista
driver update download in Step 1 above. You may find more
than one folder in the folder on your desktop. Search for the
Vista folder. If it is not there, continue with step 10.
5. Click the Update Driver button.
*The wizard for the update driver will begin.
10. Click the INF file that displays in the file list and click the
Open button.

11. Click the OK button back on the Install From Disk dialog
box.

12. Choose the newly added hardware in the text box and then
click the Next button.
* If you're prompted with a message warning you about how the
device driver may not be compatible with your hardware, click
the Yes button to continue installing the driver. Drivers that
have not been tested by Microsoft are still okay to use.

13. The Windows Vista Driver update software wizard will now
use the instructions provided in the INF file from Step 10 to
install the updated drivers for your hardware.

14. Follow any additional instructions on screen to complete
the driver update.

15. You may be prompted to restart your Windows Vista
computer after the driver update is complete.

*Always restarting your computer after a driver update is a
good practice to ensure that the driver is functioning correctly.
1. Download the latest Vista drivers from the
hardware manufacturer's website. These will be the
most current. Make a folder on your desktop and
save it here.
* Even with your newly bought device, chances are
the drivers on the disk included may be an older
version than found from the manufacturer.

2. Open Device Manager from the Windows Vista
Computer Management utility.

3. With Device Manager open, locate the hardware
device that you want to find a Vista driver update
for.
* Navigate through the categories of hardware
devices by clicking the [+] icon. This expands each
category tree.
Specific hardware devices are listed under the major hardware categories.

4. Right click on the hardware's name or icon and choose Properties. In this Properties window, click the
Driver tab.
Now you know how to search through your hardware profile
and find each one's Vista driver update.
